I
am trying to find out any information on1st Lt George Joseph Bodnar. I am trying
to put together a memorial for Vietnam Vets at my old High School. George was an
alumni who graduated in 1962 and I graduated in 1966. I wanted to pay special
tribute to him and the other 5 Veterans who were KIA from my school. I was
wondering if any of his fellow troopers will be at this years reunion so perhaps
we can get together. I will be attending and seated at the 33rd Chemical
Detachment table. Any stories or pictures will be appreciated. I attended
Cathedral Latin High School in Cleveland Ohio.

I would love to hear from anyone from delta co and also wish to set the record about "lower" who was not killed by friendly fire as is alluded to on his memoriam. The dink who got him was killed by our tank that day in the trees. I can’t ever forget that day he was my best friend in ‘nam. Thank you for any pictures from that time all of mine were destroyed that day by an rpg that hit my ammo box that held my picks and camera

My
name is Mary Matthews Singleton and my husband was Sgt. Charles Crockett Matthews,
who was killed in Vietnam on August 13, 1969. Charles was in D Company, 1st
Squadron and was a tank commander. I have been trying to find anyone who may
have known him in Vietnam and so far have had no luck. Since I have remarried,
would it still be possible for me to get a roster of the men in his company and
any information about his death? He arrived in Vietnam on June 23, 1969, and
was killed in Binh Long. The information that I was given on August 15, 1969,
was very general and only stated that he had been killed in action. Charles had
told me that D Company was a very "close knit" company and that
everyone knew each other. I feel like there may be someone out there who can
help me with the information that I need. Even after 37 years, the pain is
still there. Sometimes, it seems like only yesterday.
Thank you for your help.

would like to see as many of you as possible at our next reunion, so try to

close to Chief and Gareth Bergman while in country. We were unique because 4th

Related to Robb's note above, I'd really like to add more company rosters to the web site. About twice a week I get email from someone who served in D company that says something like "I can't remember his name other than he was an SP/5 named Joe who DEROS'ed in Jun of '69. Can you tell me the correct spelling of his name so I can search for him in the Internet?" Copies of the morning reports would be a great help in answering these questions. I keep thinking I'll have time to go to the national archives and dig some out, but hasn't happened.

Miller has a great choice of cavalry Stetsons at http://www.millerhats.com/cavalry_index/cavalry.html,
although I'm not quite sure which to choose. I also have not located a source
for the right hat brass, the old style crossed sabers with an eleven above and
a one below, like http://crossedsabers-chapter-giftshop.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=30
shows for the 1/12 cav
You can buy a Blackhorse ring at http://www.classicrings.com/Army/ar67.htm but
they are pricey. I've never seen a Blackhorse challenge coin, something that
some units have as souvenirs

Just a quick Question. Does the 11 ACR have a Ring? If so where can we order it from, if not why don't we get us a design and have one made. If anyone is interested getting a Cav. stetson it can be bought at Miller Hat Company in Houston, Texas.

Mr. Goldthwaite-
My dad served with the 1/11th HHT, 7/68-7/69. He never talks much about
his Nam time, but the one story we heard again and again growing up was of the
monkey. I have old, faded pictures and wasn't sure of the
numbers on the tank in the photo. I was never sure of my dad's

With more research, I've been able to understand part of my dad's life he
isn't able to talk about- although now, he is able to talk to his
grandkids about some of it. Thank you!

Bill Harponski, who served with both the Blackhorse and the 1/4 Cav, is writing a book on the battles of Atlas Wedge in the Michelin in March '69 and would very much like to correspond with D company troopers who were there. Bill says: " Jim: I'm coming along quite well in reconstructing the Michelin battle on that day, with many original records from various sources shedding considerable light on it. D Company minus 1 platoon road marched up Highway 13, came down the swath toward the Michelin, arrived 4 km short of Fire Support Base Doc, went into NDP at dark on the 29th, and SP'd in the attack from Doc at 0600. Would you be able to put me in touch with any D troopers who were in that battle in which Lyle Aston was KIA, especially any in his platoon? I've requested 11 ACR logs which may identify which two platoons were there, but maybe someone already knows. The battle will be an important part of my book. "
Thanks.

My name is Ron Goldthwaite from Derry, NH. I found your D-Co. website about a
year ago and would like to thank you for setting it up. I'm thinking we may
have crossed paths as I got "in country" in Nov. 69 but| can't|
remember the date I took the reverse of your "exit route",
(Long-Binh, | Quan-Loi, Loc-Ninh).
I remember we had a NDP at the "runway" at Loc-Ninh and being a
medic I was put on Tank 23? or 25? I think. (This tank had a monkey
also!). I remember a few RIFs in the area and a quick call for assist to ARVN's
with US advisor (I was told) North of village, past the plantation with the
swimming pool, past the Hospital (without windows). North a few clicks,
just beyond a ditch. We were too late! I can still remember the
"sweet" smell. A mix of crushed vegetation, sweat and blood!
(and death). I'm guessing it was mid-Dec. 69. Were you there? Someone stayed
back with the CP I think. When Christmas came we were back at Quan-Loi
for Maintenance. stand-down. Anyway, Thanks for softening up war-zone C for us
and take it easy,

Hi
Guys,
I wanted to update you on some details regarding the memorial dedication for
Allan in May. We've learned that it will be held on May 23rd, 2002 (a Thu) at
10 AM in Decatur, GA. The location is the Decatur Court House Square. This area
is now a part of the greater Atlanta area and is east of the downtown area. A
reception is planned for the evening of the 22d for family and friends. This
memorial is dedicated in Allan's memory by the Atlanta Viet Nam Veterans
Business Association. They have done a magnificent job since 1987 of erecting a
memorial to an Atlanta area service members killed in Viet Nam. I encourage
each of you to go to their web site for a more in depth look at what they have
accomplished. Go to <www.avvba.org/index.html>
I don't have everyone's email address, so if you have someone not on this list,
please forward it to them. We will be receiving more information regarding
hotels/motels in the area and additional details so I'll be sure to pass
everything along. I sincerely hope that Delta Company can turn out in force to
honor one of our own.
Allons!
Tim

Jeff
Russell
My name is Jeff Russell and I am the eldest son of the late Harold Russell. I
am writing to you in the hopes that either you or those that visit your web
page can provide me with information concerning my father.
My father and mother separated within days of my birth in May of 1968 and I did
not meet him until the mid 1990s through the efforts of my then wife. We met
only a few times after that as he lived in Radcliff, Kentucky and I in Toronto,
Ontario, Canada. We were able to converse with each other but it was
understandably ackward. Shortly after separating with my mother he enlisted in
the United States Army at Detroit, Michigan with the express purpose of going
to Vietnam. Prior to joining the U.S. Army he had served in the Canadian Army.
I did not bring up the subject of his service in Vietnam with him when we did
talk as I knew it was a sensitive subject with him and rightly so. I do know
that he went on to make the U.S. Army his career and he retired as a Command
Sergeant Major in 1992 or 1994 I believe from Fort Riley, Kansas. Sadly, he
succumbed to cancer in August of 1999 and was buried in Arlington National
Cemetery with full military honours. I will never forget that day as it is
forever etched in my memory.
I know through communicating with Ollie Pickral of the 11thACVVC that my father
was in country from April of 1970 to March 1971 and that he was with the 1st
Squadron D Company. I believe he held the rank of sergeant but I cannot be sure
of this. What I am asking of you and/or your readers is for any information you
can provide me with respect to my fathers' time in Vietnam be they stories,
what he was like, etc. and realize that anything be it good or bad will be of a
great help to me in my efforts to understand this part of his life.
Thanking you in advance for your time and consideration,
Yours truly,
Jeff Russell j_a_russell@yahoo.com

Add me to your list, I was on 55a most of the first
year till I got "smoked" on operation Junction-City, a few months
after Jim Fitzpatric rotated to the states. After 93 evac got infused to 3/5
cav with Anderson of the first plt. Got smoked twice in a 18 month period, then
was an adviser to the ARVN 10th cav in Xuan-loc, after we came out of cambodia
in April 70 and again wounded. The army sent me home, stayed another 18 years
mostly Germany (all div.cav squadrons). Never was a double patch guy. Retired
Dec87 with 23.1 years. Now a contractor in Korea. Still training troops on
tanks(simulators,simnet-cctt) for the last 13 years. Made reuions in 86-87 but
went to Germany and missed all the ones after that. You know I used to stop by
even in Quan-loi to see the guys but after those two guys were killed on my old
tank I just couldn't any more. Something I obviously regret, hence this
letter. The only guy I knew then in delta was SSGT Embree who I knew in a tour
in Korea before Nam, plus we went over together with the cav on the boat in
'66. It just wasn't the same.. like I was seeing guys who I knew couldnt have
possibily been there. Thanks again Dave, owe ya a big one! here is a pic of me
an fitz(he is on the right).
allons bro, and thanks again.
