SSgt Allan Brooks Callaway from Decatur, Georgia was killed 21 February 1969 while serving as TC of D13. when he stepped on an anti-tank mine while ground guiding his tank through a defile where we had made contact the previous day. The mine was hidden under a piece of sheet metal on the ground and Allan stepped on the metal. Donald Coleman was driving the tank and John Carabetta was the loader at the time of the explosion.. .The incident occurred just east of HY 16 near FSB Harper's Ferry north of Tan Uyen in an area called the Catcher's Mitt. He was 24 years old and had been in-country for 165 days. Allan was a shake-and-bake E6 who liked to kid the other NCO's about how long it had taken them to get promoted. At the time of his death he was scheduled to go on R&R the next week. Panel 32W - - Line 69
Sp4 Lyle Glenn Aston from Glen Easton, West Virginia was killed 30 March 1969 while driving Sgt Anklam's tank in the Michelin. rubber plantation. He was 21 years old and had been in-country for 123 days. .Lyle was hit in the face with RPG fragments and was climbing out of the drivers hatch when he was hit by small arms fire. Medic David Berger and Sgt. Anklan were wounded in the same contact. Sgt Anklam insisted someone go to find his driver and get him to safety, however Lyle was already dead.. Lyle was newly married and they had a beautiful little girl. He was a loving father who was always showing off her picture. Panel 28W - - Line 88
Sgt Richard Bailey Tuten from Savannah, Georgia was killed on 14 April 1969. He had been in-country for 16 days on his second tour. His first tour as a scout platoon TC of D49 had ended on May 13, 1968 when he was medivaced with a leg wound. Track 49er lost all of its crew that night on an ammo run for the special forces camp at Cu Chi when the convoy was ambushed. Richard was friendly but quiet and was 24 years old when he died from small arms fire near Tay Ninh.. Panel 27W - - Line 84

April 18, 1969 by automatic weapons fire while serving as TC of the dozer tank
D55A. He was 20 years old and had been in-country for 101 days before

Sp4 Joseph Edward Morrow from Portland, Oregon was killed 18 April 1969
by automatic weapons fire. Ed attempted to take over as TC of D55A shortly
after Don McAtee was killed but was shot as he entered the TC's
hatch. Pee Wee and Wastovich were the surviving crew members. He was 20 years old and had been in-country for 221

Sp5 Roy Francis Maas from Lyle, Minnesota was killed 18 April 1969 by an RPG while serving with the 1st platoon. John Carabetta was on the tank at the time of the incident and was badly wounded. Roy was 22 years old and had been in-country for 135 days before participating in Operation Montana Raider (April 13-18). Panel 26W - - Line 1
PFC Ralph Albert Ramirez Jr from San Pablo, California was killed 15 May 1969. He had been in-country for 102 days, was 20 years old and died from fragmentation wounds in Binh Doung province. Panel 24W - - Line 20
SSgt Forrest LLoyd Smith from Columbus, GA (Fort Benning) was
killed 28 May 1969. He had been in-country for 41 day, was 27 years old
and died from fragmentation wounds near Long Khanh. He was serving as
a TC and platoon sergeant of the 2nd platoon. He
was killed in the initial burst of fire of a massive ambush in which the
entire company, in fact most of the squadron, was involved. Panel 23W - - Line 11
Sp5 Victor Thomas Shaffer from Toledo, Ohio was killed on 19 June
1969. He had been in-country for 293 days, was 20 years old and died from
in an explosion in Binh Duong province. He was driving D31 when the tank
detonated a mine concealed in a termite mound. Steve Linthwaite was the TC
that day. Vic had been a football player in high
school and was very physically fit. A natural leader, he tended to be
admired by those who met him, even though he came to the company with little
experience. Vic was assigned to D Company directly from the armor school

Sgt Jose Luis Flores from Los Angeles, California was killed on 12 August
1969. He had been in-country for 79 days, was 22 years old and died from
fragmentation wounds while serving as TC of D-34. While defending an NDP
during a night assault by an NVA platoon, his turret was struck by an RPG
aimed at another tank. Panel 19W - - Line 12
Sgt Charles Crockett Matthews from Clyde, North Carolina was killed on 13 August 1969 in Binh Long province. He had been in-country for 51 days, was 22 years old, married, and died as a result of small arms fire.
1Lt Donald Woods Holman from England, Arkansas was killed on March 10,
1970. He had been in-country for over a year and was a newlywed. He was 23 years old and
was struck by small arms fire from the side while standing in the TC's
hatch. Don anticipated replacing Steve Linthwaite as XO when Steve
DEROS'ed in April. The listed cause of death is from
fragmentation wounds near Tay Ninh. Panel 13W - - Line 104
1Lt Stuart Bassett Lamkin was a Mormon from Salt Lake City, Utah and was killed on 10
March 1970. He had been in-country for 15 days and was 27 years old.
He was shadowing Lt. Holman in preparation for taking over Don's platoon after
Don was reassigned as XO. He was struck by small arms fire when he jumped
onto the back deck of Don's tank to try to help Don. The listed
cause of death is by drowning near Tay Ninh. Panel 13W - - Line 105
Sp4 Garlin Jeris Henderson, Jr (Lower). from Rialto, California was killed
on 12 March 1970 while on the back deck of D31. He had been in-country for 337 days, was 19 years old
and the listed cause of death is a fragmentation wound near Tay Ninh.
He may have been hit by friendly small arms fire from an ARVN infantry platoon
sweeping behind the tank, but the driver that day (Douglas Mattson) is sure the
round came from the tree-line and that the dink that killed Lower was killed by

Sp4 Kenneth Wayne Hendrix from Steubenville, Ohio was killed 26
October 1970. He had been in country for 209 days, was 20 years old
