The primary transportation unit assigned to the Blackhorse regiment was the 398th Transportation unit, however that was not the only transportation unit that supported D company. The pictures on this page are from the 567 Transportation Company. The transportation companies kept the line companies supplied with ammunition, fuel, spare parts, water and rations. A tank company in combat consumes enormous quantities of all of these. In addition, the transportation companies recovered tanks damaged in combat that were either so damaged or so inaccessible that it wasn't practical for the company maintenance section to repair or recover them. The transportation company would recover them and tow them to Long Binh for repair by the ordinance support company. Some were shipped to Japan for depot level repair. Tanks that could not be recovered or were too badly damaged to be repaired were stripped of useful parts and DP, Destroyed in Place.
Without the efforts of the transportation companies, often working alone with only a minimal security screen, D company would quickly have been out of the battle. This page presents some pictures of their work.
