I note that I forgot to share this with you on the 26th, Day 9, and know you would feel deprived without this knowledge. It's part of a letter from me to my wife and 12 year-old daughter, 26 Mar 69. This was the day after we were pulled out of the Michelin and I finally had a few minutes to write. I had not done so since two days before we departed Di An for Atlas Wedge. I never told them about operations or any of the unpleasantries, only the good things.

Dear Sandra & Maura,

I'm sorry not to have written for so long, but we've been on operations in the Michelin Plantation for the past 10 days, and I've had no opportunity to write. We've done very well, and the powers that be seem to be pleased. For the first time we're operating as a cav squadron should. For a few days I was under George Patton's control. He leaves in another week. I'm hoping this operation will be terminated in time to take my R & R; if not, I'll take it later.

I'm getting the paper dirty because it's so hot & dusty right now. ----- I was interrupted by visitors & things to do so am now writing later by a few hours. In the interim I took a swim in a cool clear stream & changed clothes. It was a marvellous refreshing feeling. I get to change clothes about every three days, wearing them 24 hours a day. Sometimes I get a little ripe - not too bad though. You know I'm a naturally sweet smelling person.
